Admiring the Spring Peonies in Linennaive

Peonies are one of my favorite flowers to bloom in the garden, and they always arrive sometime at the end of May here in Iowa. Their bright happy shades of pink, blush, and red always bring me joy. They look like happy candies with their fluffy pops of color while everything else growing around them is still quite green.

It's wonderful to smell the flowers when you are wearing the perfect linen dress with ruffles, lace, and a flowing skirt! This Victorian cottagecore inspired outfit pairs perfectly with a pair of French hemp garden clogs. I felt that this beautiful linen dress by Linennaive, inspired by late Victorian dresses, was the prefect fit for a photo shoot amongst the flowers.

why I love linen in spring:

The weather has actually been quite cool this spring. I have found myself reaching more often for a light sweater. I love linen clothing for its ability to keep you cool on hot days and regulate your body temperature in more mild weather. I have found that my long sleeve linen dresses have been keeping me at a perfect temperature, even this late into spring.

This dress, the Mary 18, is a medium weight linen that is perfect for mild temperatures! It has a beautiful flow to the skirt, which is perfect for frolicking or twirling. I especially love how this color looks contrasted against the bright greens, pinks, purples, and yellows of a spring garden. It also comes in a green and black color.

styling notes:

This dress looks so lovely all on its own, but it also can be styled with other pieces! Of course, for this shoot I decided to keep it simple with just a pair of garden clogs.

I think that this dress also looks splendid with some shaping from stays or a corset, though the detailing on the bodice begs to be seen! I would suggest wearing stays underneath, and the shape of the dress fits best with a 19th century corset or an early 20th century Edwardian corset. Pairing this with a ruffled petticoat is lovely as well!

final thoughts:

While this look is simple, this dress has so many lovely details that you really don’t need much to style it. I love the ruffles and lace on the bodice. I have been dreaming about this dress for months, and I am so thankful to Linennaive for gifting me one of my own. Enjoy this lovely late spring Victorian look! I hope that you get a chance to stop and smell the peonies this spring.
