It’s hard to believe that the day has finally arrived where I can share this wonderful announcement! A year ago, I began the journey of working with Little Women Atelier on a collaborative collection of fairytale inspired linen clothes. Many months and conversations and dedication later, we can present this absolutely whimsical collection with you!

How it Began…

I first began working with Little Women Atelier in 2020. If you have been following along with my blog and creative journey for the last decade, then you may remember how we began as a linen clothing and handmade business that turned into a little market garden. We sold vegetables and flowers to our local community for years, while I wrote this blog and shared my journey of becoming a homesteader. Then, I thought that I had to present our brand in a certain way to be successful within the Home & Garden community.

It was around the end of our farmer’s market era that I began working with Little Women Atelier. Their timeless linen dresses, skirts, blouses, and pinafores inspired after the novel Little Women by Louisa May Alcott evoked a forgotten nostalgia in me. Their incredible artistry gave me permission, in a way, to dress how I always dreamed of dressing when I was a little girl. As a lover of history from birth, I had a magical inspiration wash over me that I wanted to pursue creating content to share my love of cooking, gardening, and homesteading in a way that gave a nod towards history, fantasy, fairytales, and being cozy.

Inspired by Fairytales…

What began with one dress turned into a years long friendship and collaborative experiences. When we began discussing the possibility of creating a collection together, I was over the moon! I sat down with Jill, my mom, and we started hashing out ideas of what we thought would best represent both of our brands.

I knew that I wanted to highlight my love of blending history and fantasy. I was inspired by the costuming from my favorite fairytale films, animation, and theater productions. I have always loved how these retellings, like Cinderella or Beauty & The Beast or Sleeping Beauty, always love to blend historical eras in their costume design. It creates this nostalgic feeling, where you can’t quite place which time it came from, but it makes you feel romantic, whimsical, and beautiful. This is something I wanted this collection to evoke while being wearable everyday.

And Outlander!

It’s not surprising that Outlander played a large role in our inspiration as well! You may know that Outlander sparked my very first blog posts as I began to study herbalism and gardening. It makes me smile thinking about how much this story has affected my life and brand, among countless others, and how it still creates this sense of wonder in me!

Jill wanted to bring some 18th century silhouettes into the collection as much of Little Women Atelier’s designs are inspired by the mid to late 19th century, when Little Women was written. We decided on a square neckline and v-shaped waistline, which I think is so flattering on so many different body shapes. The Claire Vest is my absolute favorite piece in this collection, with its military style button front and pockets, and a flowing detail around the back that creates a bustle effect without needing a bum-roll! The addition of ruffled, billowing sleeves were inspired by 19th century working women’s clothing.

Nostalgic Pieces with Romantic Details…

I was hesitant to include so many pieces into this collection for fear of being “too much,” but my mom insisted we go all out - if you don’t ask, the answer is always no! When we presented our ideas, I was absolutely shocked to find that Luiza and Julia were excited and adamant to create each piece. And I am so happy that they did! From our initial sketches to the final product, there are so many unique, new styles to choose from.

This collection features two new dresses, vest, corset-style bustier, chemise in two lengths, a corset dress, fishu or scarf, and 18th century-inspired pocket.

On Location…

It was in late August that I learned the collection was nearly complete! I traveled to Washington State in early October to help bring the final pieces to life… styling and photographing the garments! Luiza found the most beautiful locations to capture the essence of each outfit. We took photos in the prettiest historical village buried deep in the forest of the Pacific Northwest region. It felt like we had stepped onto the set of a Cinderella film… if it were set in the American countryside! In the mountains, we created looks that made me instantly feel like Claire, traipsing through time to the American Revolution.
