Handmade Holiday Simmer Pot Gift

A simple, handmade gift is often so much more treasured than anything you could purchase at the store. I love making DIY simmer pot potpourri for loved ones, especially those that deserve a lovely little gift but we often forget to give one like teachers, childcare providers, bus drivers, co-workers, and more. Making simmer pots is incredibly easy to do and is often fairly inexpensive. I love how wonderful they smell simmering on the stove! It makes the house smell just like Christmas. Doesn’t it look so festive in the Ball® Snowflake Keepsake Jar?
what you’ll need:
MAKES ONE PINT JAR
1 1/2 cups dried uva ursi leaves
4-6 dried orange slices
1/2 cup dried cranberries
4 3-inch cinnamon sticks
3 whole star anise
20 whole cloves
sprig of pine or cedar
30 drops orange or cinnamon essential oil
Ball® Snowflake Jar
fabric for topping jar
directions:
Combine all ingredients in a small bowl.
Transfer mixed potpourri into your pint jar. Top with lid to seal.
Place a fabric swatch on top for decoration and/or a nice tag!
To use: place entire contents of jar into a small sauce pot. Fill with water to completely cover the dried ingredients and bring to a light simmer. Continue to simmer for 10-15 minutes or until a strong aroma comes about from the pot. Remove from heat and allow to sit, breathing in the scents of the holidays! You may use this pot about 2-3 more times, filling with water again if necessary.
This recipe is for one jar of simmer pot, but you can make lots more after finding the various ingredients needed! I used a lot of the things that we had lying about the pantry, and in turn, simmer pot ingredients do not have to be pretty. They are meant to be the leftovers from the bunch, so find some holiday trimmings and spices to toss in for extra scent!
