Vanilla Cocoa Butter Lotion Bars

The holiday season has almost past, but we have another little celebration ahead in welcoming the new year. As we tend to not see many of our friends during Christmas celebrations, we like to spend time with them during New Year’s. It is a time to pass along little handmade gifts or things we preserved over the summer. I think it can be so fun to gift a homemade jam made with your neighbor’s fruit that the generously let you use! What a wonderful way to say thank you and to celebrate the beautiful growing season that we had in the past year.

I have been making lotion bars for several years, and this particular recipe is so simple, you could easily put them together in the next few days without having to hunt down ingredients. Most of the ingredients in this recipe you can now find at grocery stores, which is so nice!

ingredients & recipe:

MAKES ABOUT 12 1 OZ LOTION BARS:

  • 1/2 cup beeswax

  • 6 tbsp cocoa butter

  • 6 tbsp coconut oil

  • 40 drops vanilla essential oil or natural fragrance oil

DIRECTIONS:

  • In a double boiler, heat the beeswax, cocoa butter, and coconut oil over medium. Stir and continue to heat until all are melted and well mixed.

  • Remove from heat and slowly stir in the essential oil.

  • Pour into mold of choice (I use this silicone mold) and allow to fully harden, around one hour.

  • To use: warm in hands and rub on your skin to moisturize. Keep bars wrapped in beeswax wrap or plastic to retain scent and moisture. For external use only.

Easy to make and easy to use, these lotion bars make a wonderful little gift for someone you love or even for a night of pampering yourself. Simply warm the final product in your hands, and rub onto your skin. These lotion bars are safe for anywhere external on the body, but be sure to test a small patch of skin before applying to more sensitive areas. Inside of the wrist is a good place to test any homemade bath or beauty product to make sure that you do not have a negative reaction.

Enjoy!
