1920s Inspired Rum Apple Cider Punch (with Mocktail version)

Can you believe that Christmas is almost here? Everyone is busy preparing for the festivities. I wanted to share a fun little mixed drink idea with you inspired by the Roaring ‘20s! This drink also includes a mocktail version, which is the version that I drink because I personally don’t drink alcohol.

Whether you enjoy a spiked mixed drink or not, this little punch recipe is a really fun one to serve at your next holiday gathering! My kids absolutely love the mocktail version, and it feels very festive in a pretty glass decorated with cinnamon sugar, fresh apple slices, cinnamon sticks, and a sprig of beautiful fresh rosemary. This drink is fruity and fresh with a little bit of a punch from the sparkling ginger beer!

the prohibition era:

In the 1920s, the United States entered an era of prohibition. This prohibited the sale of alcohol, which led many young adults to find other ways to enjoy an alcoholic beverage. This resulted in the creation of speakeasies, or hidden underground bars, which were often in back alleyways.

Because of this, many of the mixed drinks that we know and love today came from this decade as people tried to cover up the impossibly strong home brewed liquor they were making!

popular 1920s drinks:

Some of the most popular mixed drinks in the 1920s were the Gin Rickey, Old Fashioned, Sidecar, Mary Pickford, Bee’s Knees, and the Highball.

This Rum Punch is actually inspired after a recipe from the 1850s! As I was researching recipes for this post, I found that I was really attracted to those that featured ginger beer and apple cider. I thought that this made a perfect winter holiday drink!

I do not normally focus on the 1920s for my content and recipes, but I was so happy when the lovely brand Babeyond reached out to me to try their new line of dresses inspired by Josephine Baker. These dresses are affordable and perfect for a holiday party!

final thoughts:

If you love a fruity and fizzy cocktail, then this is the perfect drink for you! It’s vintage elegance makes it a wonderful addition to a Gatsby-style Christmas Party. This Classic Cocktail Twist embodies the glamour of the 1920s and offers the sophistication of Prohibition-era libations. And if you do not drink alcohol, then the mocktail version is just as delicious!

Enjoy! xoxo Kayla
