Pansy and Rose Bath Salts

One of the reasons I love flower farming is that there are so many uses for several varieties of the blooms that we grow. Besides the usual dried herbs, flowers bring several benefits to the table as well. One plant in particular that I love using in the early spring is the pansy. Every part of this flower is edible, and it also has benefits for external use, one being that it has excellent anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties. It’s great for treating skin irritations such as itching, psoriasis, and eczema. In this recipe I will also be using roses for their fragrance as well as the benefits they provide. Roses help improve the complexion, ease inflammation, and help balance your skin pH. The two flowers in combination make for a wonderfully soothing bath. Here is what you’ll need to make your bath salts.

what you will need:

  • 2 cups Epsom salt

  • 1/2 cup finely ground pink Himalayan salt

  • 1/2 cup coarse pink Himalayan salt

  • 1 cup fresh pansy flowers

  • 1/2 cup fresher dried rose petals

  • 5 drops rose essential oil

    directions:

  • In a food processor, add 2 cups of epsom salt and 2 cups of fresh flower petals

  • Pulse until flowers are incorporated into the salt

  • Pour salt/flower mixture into a bowl and stir in a half cup of fine pink Himalayan salt and a half cup of the coarse pink Himalayan salt

  • Spread the salt mixture on a piece of waxed paper or a platter and allow to dry for 1 to 2 days

  • Mix in 5 drops of rose essential oil

  • Store in an airtight container for future use. If your salts are damp at all they will mold so take caution when storing them by making sure your mixture is well and dry

To use: add a few tablespoons to your warm bath water and gently mix with your hands. If you don’t want dried flower bits to clean out of your tub, you can put this mixture into a small muslin bag before adding to the bath water.
