Who says that cleaning can’t be cute and cozy? I love adding elements of my aesthetic to all of the areas in my life, including the chores that aren’t always the most fun to do. Creating a cute cottagecore cleaning caddy was just the thing I needed to motivate myself to get cracking at spring cleaning this year! A cleaning caddy is a small cleaning kit that contains everything you need for cleaning all of the areas in your house. By keeping all of your essential cleaning supplies together in a convenient container, you are making the task of going from room to room that much easier.

why i love a cute cleaning caddy:

I love when things are pretty and match my aesthetic! It keeps my neurodivergent brain happy when I can enjoy the view. I have never really loved the look of a plastic caddy or all of the brightly colored cleaning supplies like rubber gloves, brushes, and plastic bottles. That’s not to say that I don’t enjoy bright colors, I just wish that everything could match.

Of course, this part is not necessary at all to get the job of cleaning done. However, it does help! For me, dreading a task like cleaning has been made so much easier when I can enjoy the products that I made myself and put them into containers and bottles that are just as lovely. If making my cleaning supplies more cottagecore themed helps with the motivation to finish a task, then I am all for it!

how to create a cottagecore cleaning caddy:

To build you own cottagecore cleaning caddy, I have some ideas for supplies that you can begin to collect for the inside! Of course, you can adjust this list to suit your specific needs. Not everyone will need all of the items in this kit, or you may need more.

  • Basket. Finding a cute basket is one of the most fun parts! All of the baskets that I own I have found at the thrift shops, so keep your eye out for a basket that will be big enough to hold everything, a handle, and a flat bottom.

  • Towels. I have a difficult time finding towels that I enjoy. I personally despise microfiber cloths because of how they stick to my fingers and hands. I love these vintage cotton woven wash cloths or a good hand knit dish cloth like these. You can never go wrong with a basic cotton flour sack towel for cleaning windows and countertops!

  • Swedish Dishcloths. These reusable dishcloths are perfect for spills! Swedish dishcloths are made with a combination of cellulose and cotton, giving them the ability to absorb up to 15 times their weight. Plus there are so many cute ones like this floral set.

  • Cleaning Brushes. There’s nothing wrong with a bit of variety! Redecker Brushes have to be my all-time favorite for their beauty and functionality. I love this 10-inch Pig Bristle Brush, and these Pot Brushes for all-purpose cleaning.

  • Duster. This duster is lovely to look at and works beautifully!

  • Broom & Dust Pan. I have had this broom and dustpan for years and still love it!

  • Sponges.

  • Natural Cleaners. See my recipes for my favorite natural cleaners below!

adding homemade cleaners:

Once you have gathered all of the tools that you will need to fill your cleaning caddy, the next pieces to add are some natural homemade cleaners! While you can certainly use store bought cleaners instead, you may enjoy making a few of your own with some common household ingredients. For a cleaning caddy like this, I have a few favorite recipes that work for “all-purpose” cleaning.

how to make all-purpose cleaning spray:

Vinegar is wonderful for its high acidity level, which is mild enough to not damage fabrics and surfaces, but powerful enough to get rid of stains and deposits on surfaces. While it’s not nearly as powerful at killing harmful viruses and bacteria as a commercially produced cleaner, it does have some disinfectant properties. This makes it a great contender for creating your own homemade all-purpose cleaner. My recipe also includes citrus rinds and rosemary!

To make your own homemade natural all-purpose cleaning spray you will need:

  • Vinegar

  • Citrus Peels

  • Rosemary

  • Distilled Water

how to make lavender scouring powder:

There are compounds in lavender that can be helpful for cleaning specifically. It has antibacterial, antimicrobial, and deodorizing properties, which makes it a wonderful ingredient for fighting against bacteria, fungus, and mold. To make this homemade Lavender Scented Scouring Powder, you will need to gather a few key ingredients. You most likely already have these easy-to-find ingredients in your home already! That makes this natural scouring powder incredibly affordable and easy to make.

  • Baking Soda

  • Borax

  • Lavender Flowers

  • Lavender Essential Oil (optional)

how to make homemade linen spray:

Creating your own homemade linen spray is incredibly simple! All you need are a few basic household ingredients and a cute spray bottle. This linen spray is lightly scented and wonderful for creating a cozy and calming atmosphere. I am not a big lover of scents in my home, but I do enjoy using this spray on my freshly washed linens that are out on the line to dry as it fades in the breeze.

To make your own homemade linen spray, you will need:

  • 1 part witch hazel

  • 2 parts distilled water

  • 25 to 30 drops essential oil of your choice

final thoughts:

Creating your own cleaning caddy is rather simple, and you probably already have all of the parts and pieces that you need to put it together. Finding items that are cute and lovely to look at is the more difficult part. I hope that this post inspired you to rethink your cleaning tools and perhaps to enjoy romanticizing the task. If anything, it might just be what you needed to finally find the motivation to get cleaning this spring!
